Robert Sorby Sovereign System 4" Handle Extension - SOV-EXT Key Features: The Sovereign Handle Extension is a useful addition to the range of accessories. This 4" extension adds length to any sovereign handle. Note - A threaded coupler SOV-TC is required when using this item. Which Handle? The SOV-22 - Designed for turners who enjoy working further away from the project. It is particularly useful for deep hollow forms and is a favourite with those who use the Sovereign Ultima - the extra long handle providing fantastic support. The SOV-16 - This handle is equally at home providing added comfort when stretching to the bottom of long vases or adding that stability often required with many turning techniques. Its length provides that added leverage and additional support. Probably the most popular Sovereign handle. The SOV-12 - The newest of the Sovereign handles, At 12" in length this handle delivers control at close range making it ideal for smaller projects. Sovereign is an innovative handle system for woodturners. Like all other Robert Sorby products it is made in Sheffield to the most exacting engineering standards. Sovereign is the name of the interchangeable handle which comes in three lengths - 12", 16" and 22". The handles are made of aluminium and alloy in combination to give the best of strength, balance and vibration dampening qualities. Each handle comes with a durable Softex grip for extra comfort. Additional knurling provides a further non-slip surface. Both handles will take turning chisels with a 5/8" diameter shaft. Also included are 3/8" and 1/2" collets to accept tools with those diameters thereby allowing the turner to use his Sovereign for a whole host of different chisels (Note: American-made tools are measured by bar diameter whilst European brands are measured by flute size. Hence the 3/8" collet is designed for a European 1/4" gouge, and the 1/2" collet for a 3/8" gouge whilst the 1/2" gouge will fit directly into the handle).The Sovereign handles and collet system are ideal for quick change from one tool to another. At the same time they enable the turner to lengthen or shorten the tool length. There a several optional extras with the Sovereign System. Whilst the handles are beautiful balanced some turners like a bit of extra weight for control and hence there is a counterweight to fit both handles. For extra control a side handle is also offered. This can be used either on the side or top of the tool in use. For those requiring an even longer handle there is also a threaded coupler which enables the turner to fit two handles together for extra leverage. The world’s leading interchangeable blade system now boasts even more versatility with the launch of a new shorter 12 inch handle (SOV-12S) and the release of the Robert Sorby Tang Collet which provides the system with a further 24 blades – that’s more than twice the previous blade count. The system which now boasts almost 50 blades, four collets and three handle variations makes it easily the most widely adaptable system on the market today. Woodturners who have used the Sovereign and already appreciate its flexibility will be pleased to hear the latest addition allows traditional tanged and flat tools to safely and securely fit into the handle. Until now the Sovereign system has been limited to round shanked tools such as bowl gouges and spindle gouges. This latest advancement from Robert Sorby now equips the Sovereign with a full range of tools – including blades from the new Excelsior series. When combined with Robert Sorby’s new Excelsior tungsten carbide busting titanium nitride (TiN) range and the highly rated Sovereign Ultima hollowing tool, the new Sovereign series can rightly claim to be the most comprehensive handled system available on the market today.
