2 x Hellenic Arbutus Honey by The Travelling Bee Company 227g
Brand: Travelling Bee Company
Collected from the arbutus plants of Mount Olympus, the ‘Home of The Gods’ in Thessaly, Greece. Natural and unprocessed. Awarded 2 stars at The Great Taste Awards 2022. So what did the judges say? "A beautiful looking coppery toned honey with hints of deep caramel. Wafts of the hive and bee with vegetal overtones and a mere whiff of floral fragrance. Incredibly complex with notes of aniseed, licorice, rich caramel, roasted coffee, with burnt and bitter woody notes adding their astringency to a deeply sweet and characterful gift from nature. Compared to a fine whisky, playful on the palate. A truly complex and exciting honey that is an absolute flavour bomb." Arbutus honey (also known as “strawberry tree honey” due to the fruit found on the plant) is a favourite in Greece. A rare honey due to the plant blossoming late in the year. It is famous for its unusual taste and boasts one of the highest antioxidant counts in the honey world. The taste: Initially sweet with a hint of pine cutting through, followed by a surprising bitter aftertaste similar to ground coffee or dark chocolate. It is dark amber in colour, with a strong yet amiable aroma. This honey pairs well with almost all Mediterranean dishes and cheeses. This is one for the honey connoisseur’s collection!
