Even our trout are no longer safe from this all conquering piece of engineering, with models now starting for line #5. Heavily ported open spoke design" reels (badged LT) offer V-Series performance with minimum weight. Standard models still have heavily ported spools, but a more conventional closed face for those who prefer. At the heart of the V-Series is Waterworks-Lamson's proprietary sealed conical drag system. In the V-Series the conical drag elements are larger than any previous Waterworks-Lamson drag system, tripling the available torque. Large V-Series reels will produce 20 lbs. torque (stopping power) within the normal adjustment range of the drag, and achieve this stopping power with absolutely smooth and consistent progression from lightest setting to heaviest setting. The conical elements are driven by a dual-clutch array to accommodate the higher torque capacity. This supercharged" drag system is surrounded by a beautiful and bulletproof structure machined from solid barstock. The innovative foot structure has two advantages: by raising the center of mass of the reel closer to the axis of the rod, both pronating and pendulum forces on the rod are reduced. And by securing the foot with multiple support rods and fasteners that pass through both frame and foot, solves what is the weakest structural link on other reels: the connection of the foot to the frame.
