Newel posts are supplied in three designs, each with it specific purpose on a staircase. The full 90mm x 90mm Full Newel with one square block. This is the most commonly used post on most stair configurations. It is designed for the bottom of the stair case, top of the staircase, used as mid posts and corner posts on a landing.  The 90mm x 90mm Intermediate Newel with a double block. This is used when the staircase turns through 90 degrees and goes up in height. The handrail will go from the full newel up this this intermediate newel hitting the bottom block. The handrail will then leave from the top block and continue up the staircase.  The 90mm Half Newel Post. Used up against a wall to finish the handrail run. This post is fixed by screwing and gluing it directly to the wall using suitable fixings. Screws should be positioned so that they are hidden from view by the handrail.  Newel posts do not come with newel caps.  Free Stair Planning – Plan your Stairs Not sure what you need for your stairs Then use our free planning software “Plan Your Stairs” to help you decide what you need, send in your details and we will supply you with a quote. or Send us a plan or photographs of yours stairs and we will be happy to work out the parts you need and supply you with a quote Call Blueprint Joinery on 01691 671020 or email info@blueprintjoinery.co.uk Newel Post Usage If taking your entire newel post out is not an option then these newel turnings with spigot dowels are ideal. You can cut your existing newel down to create a newel base, drill a 50mm hole in the top and slot one of these posts into place. This is ideal for the DIY’er, saves time and money and gives your staircase a complete new look. If your staircase turns then you may need an intermediate newel post. An intermediate newel post has two square heads on the top turned section which allows the handrail to go in at one height and come out at another. We have intermediate posts as an option but if you are unsure then contact us and we can provide the correct newel turning for your configuration.  Staircase Building Regulations  Handrail heights on the staircase are measured from the front bullnose of a step to the top of the handrail. Spindles must not allow a sphere 100mm in diameter to pass between two spindles.  If you are unsure please contact us or your building inspector for new builds.  You can download the Cheshire Mouldings Benchmark Fitting Instructions manual from here
